Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) conducted a two-day in-service training (INSET) for senior high school and college teachers on October 27-28, 2025, at the NDJC Main Campus Covered Court. The training aimed to equip educators with innovative teaching strategies tailored to the needs of Generation Z and Generation Alpha learners.
The event’s theme, “[N]urturing [D]ynamism, [J]oy, and [C]ollaboration,” was reflected in the engaging lecture sessions and workshops led by resource speaker Mrs. Renee Vieve Vecina-Kanindot, a professor from Ateneo de Zamboanga University (ADZU).
The two-day training held lecture sessions on the ABC acronym in teaching, including amplifying positivity and joy, boosting energy and passion, and curating 21st-century learning spaces. Various workshops were done every session to challenge the teachers’ collaborative and critical thinking skills.
The Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Mitchelle Angeli Tarsum shared her expectations with the teachers after the said training.
”After the INSET, we expect that the teachers can integrate new teaching methodologies and strategies into their syllabi [since] it’s very important. Then, we also expect our teachers to create or develop more engaging classroom activities for the students. Another is, we want them to utilize technology to enhance teaching and learning,” she said.
Furthermore, Dr. Tarsum pointed out the importance of improving and encouraging important skills to meaningful teaching experiences to the students.
”We are also expecting that after the INSET, they can encourage critical thinking and problem solving [skills] among students, encourage collaborative learning, develop better assessment strategies, and most of all, reflect on their own teaching for improvement,” she added.
The INSET ’25 was initiated by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, with the goal of nurturing a more effective and innovative teaching approach among NDJC educators.
