Notre Dame of Jolo College celebrated a new milestone on October 8, 2025, with the groundbreaking ceremony of its three-storey Science Building, a project that promises to bring modern classrooms and laboratories for future Dameans.
The program began with Muslim and Christian prayers led by Mr. Almujib H. Elias and Sr. Zenaida O. Sonsona, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.
In the opening remarks of Engr. Mohammad Sadikol Alih, the project consultant, he emphasized the importance of the new building as a symbol of progress, innovation, and NDJC’s continuing commitment to academic excellence.
The College President Fr. Ross B. Kapunan, OMI later delivered an inspiring message, reminding the community that the Science Building is more than just a structure. He shared that it represents brighter opportunities for students and a stronger foundation for research and learning.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the contract signing between NDJC and WAPASWAK Construction, represented by Engr. Abdul Gaa-bid Abdurahini Majid.
The groundbreaking proper occurred, where key officials donned hard hats and turned the first shovels of soil. The symbolic act was met with warm applause as it officially marked the start of the construction phase.
The event concluded with a blessing at the site and closing remarks from Dr. Mitchelle Angeli S. Tarsum, Vice President for Academic Affairs, who emphasized the building’s role in shaping the future of NDJC students.
Guests were later invited to a fellowship lunch at Smith Hall.
Approved by the Oblate Educational System (OES) Board of Trustees last September 22, the project will be carried out by WAPASWAK Construction.
Once completed, the Science Building will house state-of-the-art laboratories and modern classrooms designed to enrich the teaching and learning experience.
This new chapter stands as a testament to NDJC’s mission of providing quality education, empowering its students to pursue excellence in science, research, and service.
