NDJC Main Library Hosts Gerry Rixhon Books Turnover Ceremony

October 6, 2025, the Integrated Learning Resource Center (ILRC) of Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) held the Gerry Rixhon Books Turnover Ceremony at NDJC Main Library, marking another milestone in the institution’s mission to promote quality education and cultural preservation.

The program commenced with the arrival of guests, administrators and students, followed by an invocation.

Mark Johnyrec Morales, the ILRC Director, opened the program with a warm welcome message, expressing the college’s gratitude for the invaluable contribution of the Rixhon family.

Mrs. Felicita Rixhon, wife of the late Mr. Gerry Rixhon, delivered a heartfelt message, sharing the inspiration behind the book donation and her husband’s lifelong dedication to education and cultural research in Sulu.

The program continued with an introduction of guests, as well as an overview of the background and intent of the donation.

A testimonial was given by Mr. Willfredo Torres, highlighting Gerry Rixhon’s impact on generations of students and his enduring legacy as an educator and historian. This was followed by an inspirational message from Dr. Emma Porio, who emphasized the importance of knowledge-sharing and community-building in education.

Representing NDJC, Fr. Ross B. Kapunan, the College President, extended the institution’s heartfelt appreciation for the donation and reaffirmed the school’s commitment to safeguarding and utilizing the donated materials for the benefit of students and future scholars.

The ceremony concluded with the signing of the donation documents, followed by photo opportunities and a salo-salo, symbolizing unity and gratitude among all attendees.

The Gerry Rixhon Books Turnover Ceremony stands as a testament to the power of education, generosity, and cultural preservation—values that continue to guide Notre Dame of Jolo College in serving the people of Sulu and beyond.
