Officially launching its two-day OpenLearning Learning Management System (LMS) Trainers’ Training, the Notre Dame of Jolo College (NDJC) invited Deans and Faculty Members in the event held at Computer Laboratory 2, that kicked off on July 10-11.
The institutional activity was organized by the administrators, as they brought together the college deans, selected faculty members from the College of Education (COE), College of Pharmacy and Medical Technology (COPMED), College of Liberal Arts & Criminal Justice Education (CLACJE), College of Nursing and Midwifery (CONM), College of Accountancy, Management, & Computer Education (CAMCE), as well as the Senior High School principal, Ms. Mary Queen Z. Loria, LPT, MAEd and selected SHS faculty members to strengthen digital teaching and learning.
At exactly 9:00 AM, the program formally opened with an ecumenical prayer led by Mr. Ladimer Abdurajak for the muslim prayer and Mr. Ian Kenneth Barade for the catholic prayer. The opening program was then followed by the introduction of the resource person, Mr. John Carlo Santos, Educational Technology Solutions and Training Specialist at OpenLearning Global, as he provided a brief background of his studies.
Following his introduction, Mr. Santos welcomed the participants and presented an overview of the two-day training. He also introduced the OpenLearning platform, explaining its five major categories: Attract, Learn, Credentials, Showcase, and Employ, which collectively support learners throughout their educational journey.
The first day centered on tackling the four-part curriculum that guided the participants throughout the training, which are:
●The Architect – Covers the philosophy of social learning, artificial intelligence in education, and Outcomes-Based Education (OBE) as the foundation of course design. ●The Designer – Focuses on creating OBE-aligned learning activities using OpenLearning’s tools and AI-assisted course development features. ●The Facilitator – Trains participants to manage digital learning communities, configure courses, operate the gradebook, issue credentials, and monitor student progress. ●The Certified Trainer – Concludes with a micro-teaching assessment, toolkit handover, and formal certification ceremony.
Moreover, even with the assistance of AI for teachers in building a learning platform accessible and convenient for students, Mr. Santos accentuated not to rely heavily on AI. He suggested that AI driven platforms only serve as a tool and guide, not a replacement for real-world education.
On the second day of the training, Mr. Santos began the session by asking questions to recall what was taught yesterday. The main activity of the morning session was to curate a course design. Through that, the teachers would know what to incorporate more into their designed course for their students by discussing and exploring several widgets or options after the assignment completion. Before proceeding with the stamping of the Openlearning passport designer as a testament of the morning activity completion.
At 1:32 PM in the afternoon, the training continued with a new activity for the teachers, in which they would act as Mr. Santos’ students who will enroll in the OpenLearning Pilipinas institution website by navigating through the Train-the-trainer Program interface. Consequently, a closing quiz was held once again for the participants before immersing more in the said activity.
The day was called with the distribution of a badge and a card by the OpenLearning system to each teacher. Lastly, group photos were taken before leaving the computer laboratory.
Finally, the Train-the-Trainer Program of OpenLearning aimed to equip the selected participants of NDJC with the skills and knowledge through the OpenLearning educational platform. Therefore, the insights and information they learned will enable them to foster an engaging and collaborative learning experience for students, as well as to mentor other teachers to enhance their teaching proficiency.
