Athletes and coaches of Notre Dame of Jolo College joined alongside five other tertiary institution in the town in its 2nd Sulu Inter-Collegiate Athletic Association Meet on October 05, 2024, hosting at Sulu State College, Patikul, Sulu.
The event, having the theme “Empowering Excellence Through Sports: Unity, Strength, and Growth” is sponsored by Hon. Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Manalang Angara, the Secretary of Education; Hon. Pia Cayetano and Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go, Senators of the Philippines; and Hon. Abdusakur “Totoh” Tan II, the Sulu Provincial Vice Governor.
The event started with a parade featuring different tertiary institutions including Southwestern Mindanao Islamic Institute, Hadji Butu School of Arts and Trades, Sulu College of Technology, Mindanao State University – Sulu, Sulu State College, and of course, Notre Dame of Jolo College.
The NDJC athletes were accompanied by their designated coach, NDJC Nightingale Band Corps, the NDJC Mascot, and reigning Miss NDJC Palaro 2024, Fatima Hainun A. Uckung.
The parade ended in Sulu State College, marking the start of the opening program.
An invocation was led by Mr. Jalsar A. Jalaide, followed by the singing of the national anthem conducted by Ms. Elenita C. Tan and singing of Bagong Pilipinas, then followed by the singing of the hymns of the respective participating institutions.
Subsequently, Prof. Charisma Ututalum, CESE, the Sulu State College President , gave her opening message. Then, Ms. Adawia A. Jamasali then acknowledged the guests of the events.
The hoisting of the flags and lighting of the torch were conducted by the following representatives: Mr. Jasper Nuñez representing Senator Sonny Angara, Mr. Matthew Marasigan representing Senator Pia Cayetano, and Ms. Paula Bermudez representing Senator Bong Go.
Afterwards, Ms. Sherryl-Kathleen Muddasil was introduced as the guest speaker of the event while Hon. Totoh Tan II then gave an inspirational message to the audience of the event.
To live up the event, the Stalwart Performing Arts delivered an intermission number, followed by the oath taking of the athletes, coaches, and officials.
After the opening program, a lively event — President’s Night featured entertainment including the Stalwart Band, fireworks, performances, and a socialization opportunity.
The 2nd SPIAA Sports Fest starts awhile ago, October 06 until Tuesday, October 08, competing for different sports events including 5 x 5 men’s basketball, men’s volleyball, women’s volleyball, men’s badminton, women’s badminton, men’s sepak takraw, men’s table tennis, women’s table tennis, men’s chess, and women’s chess.
